What is a Flake Concrete Floor Coating?

Flake chip systems create a vibrant, seamless, resilient surface unlike a plain gray concrete slab. Although this floor type is rather simple both in composition and installation, it yields an exceptionally durable and long lasting floor. This flake floor system is a multi-coat chip (flake) broadcast concrete coating system. It is designed to provide a capable, terrazzo-like seamless flooring finish suitable for numerous types of commercial and residential flooring applications. The vinyl chips provide not only a pleasing palette of color optios but also adds a measure of slip resistance to the surface.

Flake systems continue to gain immense popularity among architects, designers, contractors and consumers, due to their unique properties that deliver complete customization to commercial, residential, retail and industrial floors with an endless array of color styles, textures, sizes and blending options.

Vinyl chips come in 5 different sizes; 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 and 1/64, with the most common being 1/4”. They come in a nearly unlimited variety of colors. You can select colors based on your building’s decor, organization’s branding colors, favorite team colors, or simply your favorite colors in general. Custom color combinations or ratios of colors can be ordered for any size project with a 2-3 week lead time.

This system is generally a 3 layer system. First, we prepare the surface by grinding to set up for a proper adhesion that meets the specification of the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) concrete surface profile. Once the floor is ready for the flake system, we will lay down the prime/cast coat, broadcast the flake to full refusal or rejection and then apply a top coat.

What is a Quartz Concrete Floor Coating?

Quartz floor coatings make for safe, ergonomic and decorative resinous floors. Black Rhino’s quartz decorative flooring aggregate is composed of the finest uniformly shaped and sized quartz granules on Earth. This unique product is a brilliantly color-coated system that provides flooring solutions for the most demanding heavy-traffic environments, specifically in areas which require high traction properties.

This system is generally a 4 layer system. First, we prepare the surface by grinding to set up for proper adhesion that meets the specification of the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) concrete surface profile. Once the floor is ready for the flake system, we will lay down a prime/cast coat, broadcast the quartz, add second cast coat and broadcast the quartz a second time for proper coverage. We will then add a grout coat and finish with a top / sealer coat.
